The CELAR project is pleased to announce today that the consortium has been joined by the Scientific Computing team of the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research (PICR) at the University of Manchester. As part of the consortium, the Paterson Scientific Computing team led by Dr Wei Xing will design and develop cloud-based next generation sequencing data process pipelines, he explained:
“It is expected that CELAR will be of enormous benefit to the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research. A challenge with next generation sequencing data pipelines is that different stages require substantially different levels and types of (massive) computing resources.”
Ger Burns, Dissemination Manager on the CELAR project and Senior Vice President of Service Delivery at Flexiant, added:
“Having Wei and the Paterson Institute join the CELAR team brings a great deal of valuable experience to the project. In particular in the area of real-world test case data, their partnership in the consortium will be invaluable for testing and delivering applicable resource elasticity.”
The leading cancer genome data centre will join CELAR to help develop automated multi-grained, elastic resource provisioning for cancer genome applications. Dr Xing continued:
“The CELAR project addresses this challenge by using the CELAR platform to orchestrate the right amount of resources based on cancer genome analytic pipelines demand, performance and requirements resulting in optimal use of infrastructure resources and significant reductions in administrative costs.”
The Paterson Institute for Cancer Research, is one of Europe’s premier cancer research centres. Its international reputation for excellence in cancer research is built on the expertise of its outstanding scientists and enhanced by its close links with the Manchester Cancer Research Centre (MCRC), an exciting partnership between the University, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Cancer Research UK (CRUK). PICR provides state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge technology platforms that support CRUK research groups, as well as several university groups associated with the Institute of Cancer Sciences.
